If you shop at Ralph’s Supermarkets, you can now select West Hollywood Church’s Sack Lunch program as a Community Contribution recipient. Depending on the amount you spend each month, our Sack Lunch Program will be eligible for a grant of between 1% and 4% of your month’s total purchase.
This Sunday, November 6, we welcome the Rev. Felix Villanueva, the Conference Minister of the So California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu is one of our world’s most extraordinary leaders. He’s been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism, Gandhi Peace Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He is regarded as South Africa’s moral conscience. An opponent of apartheid, he became the first black South African Archbishop of Cape Town and headed the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. One of most notable religious leaders of our day, as an Anglican priest and bishop, he campaigns to fight poverty, racism, homophobia, AIDS and tuberculosis.
On Sunday October 2nd we celebrated World Communion Sunday, and once again during the month of October we will receive our special offering for Peacemaking.
This year our annual worship and church picnic in Griffith Park will be extra-special, as our friends from Altadena Community Church will be joining us!
For your calendar, here are the dates of our UCC Discernment Sundays. Overall, we have included two opportunities to speak with Pastors of UCC churches that are similar to ours, two combined worship celebrations and conversations with our partner church, Altadena Community Church, one worship and conversation event with UCC lay leaders, and one preaching and conversation time with the UCC Conference Minister. We will also have one Congregational Forum with our Presbytery’s Engagement Team.
As you may know, Congress is considering legislation that would provide equality for binational GLBT couples.
THIS SUNDAY is our celebration of Pentecost, the day we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit being poured out upon us. It is a day of celebrating diversity so, as is our tradition, WEAR RED or any ethnic/cultural native dress TO WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY!
On Sunday June 5 we will receive our special Offering for our Sack Lunch program PLUS we invite you to bring in the CONTENTS for “PERSONAL HYGIENE” kits. This includes toothbrush, toothpaste and NEW socks. A box or two of gallon-size “zip lock” bags would be appreciated also.
This interactive discovery class meets Sunday after worship for lunch and concludes by 3:30 pm.
